Eisen (1790 - 1848) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Winter on the River

Goyo Studio Reprints - Hashiguchi Goyo is the undisputed master of the 20th century shin-hanga movement. A secondary part of his career was reprinting beautiful old ukiyo-e designs from the golden age of the Japanese woodblock print. Between 1918 and 1920, much of Goyo’s artistic work was devoted to creating these incredible woodblock reprints of classic ukiyo-e prints. Each image was painstakingly copied from an original and stamped with the Goyo circular seal. Line by line, color by color, the prints were recreated in Goyo’s studio to perfectly emulate these masterworks of ukiyo-e. Goyo took pride in this work and the release of his reprints was met with great acclaim.

Today, original Goyo reprints are highly sought after by collectors and rare to find. This is an exceptional opportunity!

Comments - Beautiful winter landscape of boatmen poling a raft along a silent river, snow blanketing the houses and trees along the shore. A lovely example of aizuri-e, woodblocks printed only in shades of blue. A great reprint of this terrific Eisen design with wonderful soft shading in the water and sky. Would make a striking display.
