Original Yoshiyuki (1835 - 1879) Japanese Woodblock Print
Inari Shrine at Star Pond in Hirota

Series; One Hundred Views of Osaka

One Hundred Views of Osaka - Kamigata-e or prints from the Osaka region are usually associated with kabuki themes. Full landscape subjects such as the series "One Hundred Views of Osaka" are much less common, offering an interesting counterpart to the area's distinctive actor portraits. The well-known artists Kunikazu, Yoshitaki, Yoshiyuki, and others each contributed designs to this handsome early 1860s series, which features nicely detailed views of city streets, noted buildings and landmarks, and people going about daily life, styled after Hiroshige's "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo." The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has many prints from this series in its collection. A great look at life in Japan outside Edo, from a rarely seen Osaka series.

Image Size - 9 1/4" x 6 5/8" + margins as shown
