Famous Places in Tokyo: Five-Story Building at Kaiunbashi, 1873

Comments - Terrific view of the newly built, five-story Mitsui-gumi House at Kaiunbashi, which housed the First National Bank. The Western-style lower floors are topped with a miniature castle reflecting shogunate style, complete with a tiled roof featuring leering demon ornaments. The imposing structure is surrounded with a walled courtyard topped enclosing a garden at lower right. Visitors and business men crowd the balcony and enjoy the view from the tower above. A fantastic image of this modern Meiji building, beautifully detailed and attractively colored.

Artist - Kuniteru II (1829 - 1874)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. A few small holes, repaired, blends well. Slight creasing and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
