Comments - Interesting triptych depicting a wedding ceremony taking place at the Imperial Palace. The groom sits in a plush red velvet chair at left, wearing dress military uniform and a plumed cap, his sword at his side. The bride is shown in the center, followed by attendants, dressed in a beautiful European gown with a bustled full skirt trimmed with ruffled lace ruffles, a pink veil over her hair. Three women kneel at left next to offering trays, while two other men sit in chairs in the center. Two tables behind them hold displays featuring symbols of longevity and good luck for the couple's future, including bonsai pine trees, cranes, and small figures of the elderly couple Jo and Uba, who represent love and fidelity. The elegant interior is beautifully detailed with patterned carpet, fringed draperies, and a folding screen. A great scene from courtly life during the Meiji era.
