Series; One Hundred Poems as Explained by the Nurse

Poem by Minamoto no Muneyuki Ason - Attractive winter scene of hunters warming themselves at a bonfire, clouds of smoke billowing skywards. The men wear straw leggings against the cold, and two of them have guns slung over their backs. Snow covers the woven straw walls of a shelter at right, and a large kettle hangs from one of the trees at right. The poem by Minamoto no Muneyuki Ason, grandson of Emperor Koko, reads:

Winter loneliness
In a mountain hamlet grows
Only deeper, when
Guests are gone, and leaves and grass
Withered are;--so runs my thought.

A handsome design with wonderful line work and detail. A striking Hokusai composition.
