Comments - Attractive scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress enjoying the colorful autumn foliage in a garden. The emperor stands at right in a fine military uniform and cap, gesturing with his hand. In the center, the empress is dressed in the latest Western fashion, wearing a black dress with a tightly fitting bodice and bustled overskirt, and a bonnet trimmed with feathers and ruffles. Several ladies of the palace accompany them, also dressed in modern European attire. A narrow waterfall cascades down the stony hill at left, and maple trees covered with red and orange leaves dot the landscape. A lovely design, detailed with a subtle burnished floral pattern in the black dress and fine bokashi shading in the leaves and sky.
