Comments - Lovely scene of a lord and his princess enjoying a musical presentation by the ladies of the court. In the center a beauty plays the koto while other women play the shakuhachi flute, the biwa (Japanese lute), and a panpipe. At far right a lady plays the kokyu, an instrument similar to the shamisen but played with a bow, and a woman uses slender mallets to strike a small xylophone called a mokkin. A page holds the nobleman's sword at upper right. A lovely scene from upper-class life, nicely detailed with fine embossing on the white kimono fabric.
