Comments - A dramatic scene from the classic kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura" illustrating the morning after the attack on Moronao’s mansion. The 47 ronin march back across the Sumida River with Moronao’s head, on their way to Sengakuji Temple to lay it upon their master's grave. The warriors are confronted by guards at the foot of the bridge, as several townspeople watch at right. The beauties are dressed in fine kimono, and a servant at right carries a bundle of bamboo. A mother dog nurses two of her puppies in the snow nearby. A fantastic depiction of this historic event, with fine burnished detail in the black kimono.
