Summer: The Cool of the Evening in a Bedroom in Muromachi, 1861 - Handsome triptych depicting Prince Genji preparing to retire for the evening in a mansion in Muromachi. He stands on the verandah, drying his face with a towel, looking out over the lake surrounding the palace. An attendant kneels before him, a lacquer towel stand on the floor nearby. At left, a woman in an elegant red kimono patterned with blue morning glories carries a tray with a large pitcher on it. At right, a beauty peers out from under the mosquito netting, wearing an informal blue and white cotton robe. A lovely design with wonderful detail in the architectural setting and soft shading in the night sky.
