Garden in Early Summer, 1893

Comments - Lovely triptych of a girl and two women in an iris garden at night. The young girl points excitedly as she spies a cuckoo flying in front of the moon, an auspicious sign. The beauty at left pauses on a narrow plank bridge built over a pond edged with blossoming purple irises. Through the round window at right, a mother can be seen cuddling her young child, the opening framed by colorful peonies, a stone lantern, and a maple tree. A charming summer subject with attractive detail and color in the kimono fabrics and soft shading in the evening sky.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. A few small holes, repaired, blends well. Slight creasing, very slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
