Direct Encounter of the Household Troops of Kenshin and Shingen at the Battle of Kawanakajima, 1851 - 1852

Comments - Terrific illustration of the Battle of Kawanakajima between the forces of forces of Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen. In the center, Shingen gallops ahead on a brown horse, raising his sword in one hand as he grabs a spear thrust at him with the other. His personal standard flutters above his head atop a golden bamboo pole, while the ends of his white head sash fly straight up as he rides. The ground is littered with dead and wounded warriors, arrows, and abandoned weapons and standards. At upper left, Takeda samurai flee before the onslaught of Shingen's troops, the battlefield obscured by drifting clouds of smoke. A dramatic action scene with wonderful detail in the figures and weapons, and fine bokashi shading in the dark night sky and smoke. A nice crisp printing with` handsome wood grain impression. A great design from this famous conflict.
