Collapse and Subjugation: Battle of Pyongyang, 1894

Comments - Terrific image of the Meiji imperial army crushing the Chinese opposition during the Battle of Pyongyang during the Sino-Japanese War. Generals on horseback at right wave their swords as they rally the troops, men rushing forward to attack the Chinese. In the center, one man points his bayonet at an enemy as his fellow soldiers raise their swords. Several wounded or dying Chinese lie crumpled on the ground, while others scramble to escape at left. A dramatic scene, detailed with burnishing in the black uniforms and fine bokashi shading in the clouds of smoke and sky.

Artist - Toshihide (1863 - 1925)

Image Size - 28" x 14"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some toning at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
