Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Ishii Genjiro, 1858

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of an actor in the role of Ishii Genjiro, a wandering monk called a komuso. He lifts his basket hat for a better look, frowning unhappily, his shakuhachi flute in his other hand. He wears black monk's mantle over a beautifully embossed white kimono patterned with bamboo, with a heavily padded sash around his waist. An attractive design with fine line work in the basket and burnishing in the black mantle.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A few small holes and areas of thinning in subject, repaired from reverse. Minor spotting and soiling in subject and margin. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
