Series; Famous Places in Edo

Enjoying the Evening Cool at Ryogoku Bridge, 1833 - Wonderful night scene of residents of Edo enjoying the evening cool at Ryogoku, the bridge crowded with pedestrians. The Sumida River is filled with boats of all sizes, with a beauty standing in the front of a pleasure boat at right, smiling as she looks over her shoulder. Two swimmers frolic and splash in the water below as a larger ship decorated with red paper lanterns passes at left. Just beyond the prow of the larger ship, a small boat carries a vendor selling refreshments. A charming view of this favorite summer pastime.
