Hunting at Koganegahara

Series; Outer Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no on-omote)

Hunting at Koganegahara - Terrific Chikanobu triptych by of an Edo era hunt scene at Koganegahara (Kogane Plain) with four mounted riders hunting wild boar and deer while rabbits and foxes run about. This type of hunting was reserved for members of the upper class and these important feudal lords are enjoying a typical hunt outing. The nobleman at left has just fired an arrow into a spotted deer, which tumbles to the ground. The warrior at right takes aim at a boar as it runs past. Beautiful composition with touches of burnishing in the black lacquer saddles and sword cases.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 3/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams, backed with paper. Very slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
