Series; Outer Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no on-omote)

An Audience with the Shogun - Handsome triptych depicting an audience with the shogun at the palace. The shogun sits on a platform at right, holding a staff upright in his hand as he looks out with a stern expression. A daimyo kneels before him, bowing his head reverently, flanked by rows of noblemen on either side. Each of the men wears formal court attire, including a black robe lined with red and a trailing white sash, and a tall court cap. The robes of the large figures are burnished with a variety of different patterns, including floral and geometric designs. A cloud softly shaded with pale orange frames the scene across the top. A lovely, serene image, beautifully printed and detailed.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 3/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams, backed with paper. Very slight soiling, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
