Beauties on a Verandah in Spring, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Attractive triptych depicting three beauties on a verandah in spring, enjoying the cool air. At left, a maid carries a folded robe over her arm, looking back over her shoulders at the beauty in the center. She smiles at the servant, holding a folding fan in her hand. At right, a woman looks over the railing, exclaiming at the blossoming cherry trees filling the garden below. She wears a black kimono bordered with Genji symbols, and tied with a blue and brown brocade obi. Red paper lanterns hang overhead. A charming image, nicely detailed.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 29 7/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams with some remnants from previous backing on reverse. Lightly toned throughout with a few small holes and areas of thinning, repaired from reverse. Slight creasing and soiling throughout with a couple small losses at bottom corners. A few minor stains in all three panels, along edges and in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
