Eisen (1790 - 1848) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Beauty in Private Quarters

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Charming image of a young beauty in her private quarters, stepping through doorway with a sliding shoji screen. Light from a candle casts her shadow on the screen in pale gray, creating an interesting effect. She looks down at a large bundle wrapped in cloth just outside the entrance. A fine reprint with soft color and a rarely seen subject.

Artist - Eisen (1790 - 1848)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight thinning on reverse at top corners, repaired, blends well. Slight creasing at top corners, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
