Onoe Kikugoro IV as Shirabyoshi Sakuragi, 1860

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikugoro IV as the shirabyoshi dancer Sakuragi in the classic play commonly known as "Dojoji." She looks up over her shoulder with a startled expression, her eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. She wears a pretty kimono patterned with cherry blossoms and flowing water, and a tall yellow court cap. Her hair is adorned with two clusters of small blue flowers and many ribbons. A nice expressive figure, attractively colored and detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim and fine bokashi shading in the sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 10"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Lightly toned throughout with one horizontal creasing running through subject. Minor tearing along edges with a few small holes in subject, repaired from reverse. A couple faint stains along edges with light soiling in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
