Comments - Terrific triptych illustrating a kabuki scene from the famous tale of the Soga Brothers. Here, the two brothers encounter the nobleman Suketsune, the man who murdered their father when they were young children. The nobleman sits on a folding stool beside an elegant enclosed palanquin, gripping his sword with one hand. He glares at the young samurai He wears voluminous formal court robes and a tall black court cap as. The impetuous Goro jumps to his feet, ready to take action against the killer while his older brother, Juro, urges him to remain calm, holding out his hand in a stopping motion. Wonderful detail in the expressive faces. A great illustration from this classic tale of honor and revenge, nicely detailed with burnishing in the black court cap and embossing on the white kimono collar.

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Vertical fold near left edge of each panel. Slight separation along fold lines, repaired, blends well. Slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
