Original Kunisada III Japanese Woodblock Print
Kabuki Conversation, 1903

Comments - Interesting triptych depicting three men deep in conversation. The fellow at left leans forward anxiously, grimacing with his mouth open, his hand resting atop his fan. The man in the center stares at him with a tight-lipped frown, while the nobleman at right watches him closely. The nobleman wears a red robe patterned with the three hollyhock leaf crest of the Tokugawa Clan over a white kimono tucked into red hakama pants, his long hair combed smoothly over his shoulders. The bright blue sliding panels lining the back of the room feature a repeated circular motif. From left, the actors are Kataoka Ichizo III as Yamanouchi Iga Koresuke, Ichikawa Yaozo VIII as Ooka Echizen-no-Kami, and Ichimura Kakitsu VI as Tokugawa Takashi. Nice expressive faces with fine line work in the hair.

Artist - Kunisada III

Image Size - 14" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. A few small holes and thinning spots, repaired, blends well. Slight soiling and creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
