Original 20th century Japanese Woodblock Print
Seven Lucky Gods

Comments - Handsome black and white illustration of Japan's famous Seven Lucky Gods riding in their treasure ship. The jolly monk Hotei leans over the edge of the boat at left, with Bishamonten standing behind him wearing armor. At right, Daikoku smiles happily as he rests atop a straw-wrapped bundle of rice. The kanji character on the sail reads "treasure." According to tradition, the gods arrive in port on their treasure ship on New Year's Eve to bring happiness to everyone in the coming year. A nice drawing of these beloved deities.
