Receiving a Tattoo

Comments - Intriguing image of a young courtesan getting her arm tattooed, likely with the name or nickname of her sweetheart. She sits on a bed holding up her sleeve as a young beauty tattoos her arm. She is comforted by her lover during the painful process, who has his arm around her shoulder as he smokes a slender pipe. An interesting and unusual subject, not often seen in reprint form.

Artist - Shigemasa (1739 - 1820)

Image Size - 9 1/2" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at one corner from previous folio mounting. Slight soiling at top right corner, a couple small spots. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
