Confrontation at a Bonfire, 1878

Comments - Dramatic kabuki scene of two samurai confronting each other in front of a huge bonfire. The wild-haired rogue at right draws his sword with an angry frown as he leans forward aggressively. The other warrior grimaces back at him, hunching towards his foe. Red flames send a cloud of orange and gray smoke skywards, filling the night sky. At left, two beauties carrying torches watch the argument, one smiling while the other looks concerned. The actor at right is Ichikawa Danjuro IX. A great design with large figures and a striking setting, with a subtle burnished pattern in the black kimono.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28" + margins as shown
