Kiso Yoshinaka

Series: One Hundred Stories of Military Valor, circa 1836

Kiso Yoshinaka - Fantastic illustration of Kiso Yoshinaka locked in combat with an enemy, tumbling down a steep hillside. The pair is arrested in its slide by a pine tree as debris and swords go flying down the nearly vertical descent. Yoshinaka grasps his opponent by the throat with a determined frown, his hair flying wildly about his head. In this scene, Yoshinaka represents the historical Kato Kiyomasa in combat with the Taira commander Mikawa no Kami Taminori at the Battle of Naminoyo in Kaga Province. A terrific composition with beautiful rich color and wonderful detail in the armor and weapons. A great Kuniyoshi warrior design.
