Morning View at Nihon Bridge

Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido

Isseido Booksellers - This lovely old reprint comes from a portfolio originally sold by the Isseido Booksellers in Tokyo. After partnering with his brother for several years, Ukichi Sakai opened his own bookshop in the Kanda district of Tokyo in 1911. The great fire that swept through Kanda in 1913 destroyed his business, so he reopened under the name Isseido, and the family-run business is still operating today. These beautiful Hiroshige designs were published by the respected Adachi Print Studio, and include an embossed publisher's seal in the left margin (please see example of labels below, not included). Beautifully drawn with fine line work and soft bokashi shading. A great opportunity to purchase a classic Hiroshige landscape reprint with an interesting provenance.

Morning View at Nihon Bridge - This scene occurs around 4 a.m. when the wooden gates of the district were open for early morning traffic. A fantastic first print from the Tokaido series as the daimyo party sets out for the long journey to Kyoto. A great choice for the collector or for display. Beautiful, famous Hiroshige print.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 8 1/2" x 13 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Light toning. Some prints have a few small spots or slight soiling. Please see photos for a sense of individual condition. Generally in good condition overall.
