Battle of Dan-no-ura, 1855

Comments - Fantastic triptych of Yoshitsune executing his legendary "eight boat leap" at the Battle of Dan-no-ura in 1185, crouching as he flies through the air above the undulating waves. He seems to hang in mid-air in the center, gripping his sword in one hand, his other arm thrown out at his side. At right, a Taira pursuer gestures angrily from the deck of his boat, enraged that the warrior has slipped out of his reach. The magnificent Imperial barge can be seen at far left, with the young Emperor Antoko perched on his grandmother's shoulder. An incredible image, full of energy and excitement, with terrific detail and a striking setting. A great depiction of this famous battle.
