Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Serving a Guest

Comments - Attractive scene of beauties serving a guest in a teahouse. He sits on the floor with a tiny cup of sake in hand, grinning up at a woman holding a shamisen. A black lacquer tray on the floor holds blue porcelain dishes of food, including a large fish, and another woman carries in a glass tumbler on a tray. The beauty at right dries the edge of her cheek with a towel, her kimono shaded from light blue to pale pink and patterned with birds in flight. The room overlooks a lovely garden with a pond, framed by a blossoming cherry tree overhead. A nicely detailed and colored subject.
