Young Men at a Teahouse

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene of two young men at a teahouse. The fellow at left seems alarmed, looking over his shoulder with a frown and holding his hand out in a stopping gesture toward his companion. His friend looks ahead with a curious expression, his chin thrust out as he pushes up the sleeve of his tan kimono, his black coat trailing on the floor from one shoulder. He grips a blue cloth in his hand, and his tobacco case and sword rest on the floor nearby. Through the shoji windows of the structure behind them, a beauty and guest can be seen in silhouette, and a plum tree frames the night sky at right. From left, the actors are Nakamura Utaemon and Ichimura Uzaemon as Kamakuraya Gorohachi. Nice expressive figures in an interesting setting.
