Wedding Preparations

Series; Women's Activities of the Tokugawa Era

Wedding Preparations - A lovely design of a young bride seated on a cushion as an attendant presents her with an offering during a ritual performed before the wedding ceremony. The young samurai bridegroom, dressed in a black robe with an elegant burnished pattern, watches the ceremony from a cushion at right. A low table behind the group is set with a symbols of longevity and good luck for the couple's future, including a bonsai pine tree, a turtle, and a pair of cranes. A beautiful Chikanobu triptych with lovely embossed detail in the white kimono fabric and a subtle pattern across the background. Would make a terrific framed presentation.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams. Slight thinning at edges, tear at right edge of center panel, repaired, blends well. A few creases, very slight soiling, a couple faint stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
