A Japanese Dealer’s Personal Collection - This print and the others posted with our “Japanese dealer” subtitle are from the personal collection of a leading Japanese dealer. We were fortunate to be able to select a small number of fine pieces from the collection of this prominent Japanese print dealer. The prints in this offering are particularly good, rare and desirable designs that this dealer had set aside for his personal collection. We chose prints that we knew would appeal to Fuji Arts clients. Take some time to explore this fine, small group. These designs are rarely offered!

Comments - Fantastic scene inside a Yoshiwara brothel of bird-headed men causing a commotion. In the center two fellows attempt to restrain an egret-man, who wildly waves a lantern stand like a weapon over his head. A large plate of fish flies through the air overhead, scattering its contents across the floor, thrown by the black bird headed man at left. A young girl rushes to get out of the way, running past an overturned red lacquer table. Other bird-headed customers and beauties peer around the sliding shoji screens from the rooms along the hallway, watching in surprise. At upper right, a party of birds and men remains calmly seated, enjoying food and music. An incredibly inventive and creative subject, wonderfully detailed and composed. An intriguing and unusual design, also in the collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
