Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Women Overnight Guests

Goyo Studio Reprints - Hashiguchi Goyo is the undisputed master of the 20th century shin-hanga movement. A secondary part of his career was reprinting beautiful old ukiyo-e designs from the golden age of the Japanese woodblock print. Between 1918 and 1920, much of Goyo’s artistic work was devoted to creating these incredible woodblock reprints of classic ukiyo-e prints. Each image was painstakingly copied from an original and stamped with the Goyo circular seal. Line by line, color by color, the prints were recreated in Goyo’s studio to perfectly emulate these masterworks of ukiyo-e. Goyo took pride in this work and the release of his reprints was met with great acclaim.

Today, original Goyo reprints are highly sought after by collectors and rare to find. This is an exceptional opportunity!

Comments - A fantastic Utamaro triptych design and favorite golden age subject depicting beauties behind the mosquito netting. Three lovely young women in light evening robes relax behind the netting as they retire for the night. At left, a beauty ties up the netting for the evening while a servant at right holds out a sheer black silk kimono. A beautiful old reprint with fine line work and a soft color palette. A rare find.
