Original Shuntei (1873 - 1914) Japanese Woodblock Print
November, 1898

Series; Twelve Months of Beauties

November, 1898 - Lovely scene of attendants helping a beauty to dress as she stands before full-length mirror atop a red lacquer dressing table. She stands quietly, holding her long sleeves out of the way as a woman kneels behind her, tied a lavender print brocade obi. At right, a young girl sits on the floor, carefully folding a delicately embossed white robe. She smiles as she looks back over her shoulder, dressed in a blue kimono bordered with a design of origami cranes and bamboo. Other kimono and obi hang from a black lacquer frame at right, including a purple sash patterned with blossoms and a robe shaded from pale green to lavender with a plum blossom border. A charming subject, nicely detailed with additional embossing, and burnishing in the hair and lacquer frame.

Artist - Shuntei (1873 - 1914)

Image Size - 13 5/8" x 28"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams and backed with thin paper. Slight vertical creasing and wrinkling in all three panels. Minor spotting and soiling in subject. A few spots of ink offsetting along edges and in subject. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
