Series; Famous Views of the Four Seasons in the Eastern Capital

Evening at Ryogoku, 1853 - Attractive view of two beauties on a verandah enjoying the evening cool. The seated woman leans back with a rather shocked expression, holding a book to her chin. Her companion smiles as she clutches the collar of her sheer black kimono, a fan in her other hand. Her hair is pulled back into a low knot with a few loose wisps framing her face. A round lacquer tray on the floor holds a kettle and small porcelain cups, a slender pipe on the floor nearby. The room overlooks a view of the Sumida River with the Ryogoku Bridge in silhouette against the dark night sky. A nicely detailed design.
