Young Samurai Preparing for Bed, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a young samurai preparing for bed. He carries a lamp in one hand and a fan in the other, smiling slightly as he looks over his shoulder. He wears a gray floral kimono over a red under robe, his swords on the floor behind him with protective covers over the handles. Mosquito netting hangs at right, and the niche behind him holds a wicker vase of irises. A nicely detailed subject.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 5/8" + margin

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Slight rubbing along top and bottom edges with a few small pinpoint holes in subject, repaired from reverse. Light creasing at corner with some soiling and spotting in subject. Minor remnants from previous mounting along right edge of panel. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
