Visiting a House in the Woods, 1859

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a couple in a rustic house in the woods, a young man waiting in the grass outside to visit them. The visitor grimaces unhappily as he looks away over his shoulder, clutching a cased sword in his hand. At right, the beauty Ohana sprawls on the wooden floor, adjusting her hair, a roll of tissues in her mouth. Her companion looks out the window, drying his neck with a blue towel. Maple trees with colorful autumn foliage frame the softly shaded night sky. Nice expressive figures in a handsome setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 1/8"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Three panels, not attached at the seams, backed with paper. Slight soiling, a few faint creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
