Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Puzzled Rogue, 1863

Comments - Expressive kabuki portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as a young rogue, scratching his head in a puzzled manner. He wears a blue and green plaid kimono that hangs open at the chest, revealing a rope of chains looped around his torso. His hair is pulled back into a knot with shorter hair growing out atop his head, a dotted towel wrapped about his neck against the cool evening air. A handsome design with fine line work in the hair and soft bokashi shading in the night sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 9 3/4" x 14 1/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. One vertical crease running through subject with faint spotting and soiling throughout. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
