Ya Brigade, Fifth Group: Sawamura Tanosuke III as Yaseba Shojo, 1866 - Fine kabuki portrait of Sawamura Tanosuke III as the nobleman Yaseba Shojo. He looks down with a rather regretful smile, holding a black court cap in his sleeve. He wears a formal black court robe over a red kimono, his hair neatly pulled back into a topknot tied with purple cord. The inset above shows a fireman's standard called a matoi for the Ya Brigade, Fifth Group, of Edo firefighter, surrounded by lanterns and a ladder. Nicely detailed with soft pink shading about the eyes and embossing in the white kimono collar.
