Series; Courtesans as the Seven Komachi

Tsukioka of the Hyogoya - Lovely depiction of the courtesan Tsukioka of the Hyogoya reading a book. She kneels on the floor, holding the book open before her face, absorbed in her task. She wears a rust-colored outer robe patterned with a black lacquer cart carrying a basket of blossoms. Her kimono features a design of folding fans, flowers, and leaves, tied with a light blue sash. Her hair is pulled back into two large loops, adorned with combs and many slender hairpins. A stack of books rests on the floor behind her. An attractive image of a beauty enjoying a moment of leisure, drawn with graceful flowing line work and detailed with delicate embossing in the white trim of the outer robe. A classic Utamaro beauty portrait.
