Flowers in Full Bloom on the Sumida River Embankment, 1891

Comments - Lovely view of cherry trees in full bloom along the Sumida River embankment. The beauty at right shields her eyes with her hand as she looks up, admiring the pink and white blossoms of an ancient cherry tree. She wears a finely striped kimono and carries a Western-style umbrella. In the center, two young girls busy themselves plucking small red flower, while a couple strolls along the path below. The hilltop location provides a beautiful view of the river and Mt. Fuji beyond. An attractive design, nicely composed with attractive color and fine bokashi shading in the sky.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 27 5/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams and backed with thin paper. Lightly toned throughout with one vertical crease in subject of center panel. Faint soiling and spotting in subject with a couple areas of ink offsetting in center and left-hand panels. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
