Series; Inner Chiyoda Palace (Chiyoda no Ooku)

Poetry Contest - Fantastic triptych of the palace beauties preparing for a poetry contest. The women are seated in front of low lacquer tables with poem slips, ink stone, and brush. Wonderful detail in the elegant lacquer furnishings, and beautiful vivid color in the sumptuous kimono fabric. Fine embossing in the elderly woman's white kimono and burnishing in the black robe and black lacquer trays. A great scene from upper-class life.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 28" x 14"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels, backed with old paper. Some rubbing, soiling and toning at edges. A few light spots in subject as shown. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
