Comments - Terrific triptych depicting the general Sato Masakiyo (the real-life Kato Kiyomasa) and his retainers sailing in a warship. The great warrior stands in the front of the boat, gesturing with his fan as he regards his men with a stern expression. He wears a red vest over a fine suit of armor and a horned battle helmet, a quiver of arrows at his back and a sword encased in a tiger skin sheath at his side. The armored samurai listen to him attentively, frowning and grimacing as the ship approaches the mountainous shore at left. White-capped waves splash against the side of the ornately decorated ship, which features an elegant black lacquer canopy with gold designs. A fantastic samurai subject with wonderful color and detail in the armor and faces, and a handsome composition.
