Series; The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kisokaido, 1852

Akasaka: Onoe Kikujiro II - Handsome kabuki portrait of Onoe Kikujiro II in a female role, looking suspiciously out of the corners of her eyes over her shoulder. She holds a few lengths of yarn or thread between her fingers, and wears a deep blue kimono edges with chrysanthemums over a red under robe. Her hair is pulled back into a smooth bun adorned with a red lacquer comb, a few ribbons, and a hair ornament of miniature grasses and blossoms. The landscape scene above shows fields in front of distant mountains, with grain stacks under a tree at right. The title cartouche is framed by a small cart and a well bucket attached to a rope and pulley. An attractive design with fine line work in the hair and soft bokashi shading in the background.

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Faint vertical center fold. Minor separation at ends of fold, repaired from reverse. Minor thinning along center fold and at edges in some prints. Remnants from previous backing on some prints. Please see photos for a sense of individual condition. Generally in nice condition overall.
