Seated Warrior

Comments - Handsome portrait of a warrior sitting on a folding stool covered with a spotted deer skin. He is dressed for battle in full armor, wearing a horned battle helmet topped with a dragon and holding folding fan. His two swords hang at his side, one encased in a tiger skin sheath, his bow and arrows behind him. A purple drapery hanging overhead features the three hollyhock crest of the Tokugawa Clan. The two panels at left feature calligraphy. Beautifully colored and finely detailed, with burnishing in the black areas of the armor and allover cloth embossing in the background.

Artist - Toshikata (1866 - 1908)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 5/8" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams and backed with thin paper. A few small stains in center panel with areas of ink offsetting and soiling in subject. Faint spotting and rubbing near edges. Please see photos for detail. Nice overall.
