Sawamura Chojuro V as Satsuma Gengobei and Onoe Baiko IV as the Geisha Koman

Comments - Handsome kabuki scene from the play "Godairiki Koi no Fujime," which tells the story of the warrior Satsuma Gengobei, who falls in love with the geisha Koman. The evil samurai Sasano Sangobei tricks Koman into writing a letter to Gengobei severing their relationship. In this scene, Gengobei frowns unhappily as he looks up, angry that Koman has rejected him. He wears a black kimono over a red under robe, a white cloth wrapped about his head and one hand resting atop the hilt of his sword. The circular inset above shows Koman standing in a doorway, looking over her shoulder as she holds a towel draped over one shoulder. The actors are Sawamura Chojuro V as Gengobei and Onoe Baiko IV as Koman. The figures are nicely set off by a deep blue background. Detailed with delicate embossing in Gengobei's red under robe.
