Chuzan Bungoro II as the Yakko Yodohira and Bando Shuka I as the Nun Seigen, circa 1848

Comments - Handsome design from an untitled series of kabuki double portraits by Toyokuni III. Each image depicts the actors on vertical panels with strong wood grain, set against a solid-color background in tones of blue, gray, or tan. The expressive figures are beautifully detailed with fine line work in the hair. Some feature deluxe printing treatments such as embossing or burnishing. An interesting and unusual format from a rarely seen series.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Stitching holes along one side from previous folio binding, repaired, blends well. Some prints have a few small wormholes near edges, repaired. Slight soiling and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for a sense of individual condition. Generally in good condition overall.
