Secret Visit from the Country Genji, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Attractive triptych showing Mitsuuji, the Country Genji, paying a secret visit to a beauty. He kneels on the steps at left, pushing aside a curtain as the beauty covers her mouth in fright, looking back over her shoulder with a worried expression, afraid of being discovered. At right, a matron and a woman eavesdrop outside the house, the matron scowling unhappily as she crouches beside the building. The room is decorated with panels featuring cherry trees in bloom and golden yellow clouds, with an ornate lantern hanging overhead. A charming scene with wonderful detail in the elegant clothing and setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28 3/4" + margins

Condition - With excellent color and detail as shown. A few areas of soiling and creasing in subject. Minor paper remnants at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
