Visit to Enoshima, 1856

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting kabuki actors offstage paying a visit to Enoshima. At left, a woman smoking a pipe chats happily over her shoulder with a man who also carries a pipe. In the center, a man grimaces as he scans the horizon, shielding his eyes with is hand. He wears a blue coat over a plaid kimono, a sword at his side. At right, a fellow with a robe draped over his shoulder tugs at the robe of his companion. A narrow spit of land leads out to the island of Enoshima behind them, with sails dotting the ocean and a view of Mt. Fuji at right. From left, the actors are Fujikawa Yukichi, Bando Takesaburo, Arashi Yoshisaburo, unidentified, Nakamura [?], and Nakamura Fukusuke. An attractive design with fine bokashi shading in the water and sky.
