Comments - Written in 54 chapters, the Tale of Genji is one of the earliest and greatest works of Japanese literature. The Tale of Genji explores the trials of love, lust, patronage, and loyalty. Prince Genji plays the central protagonist, a young man learned in speech, arts, manners, and music. In this shunga adaptation of the popular tale, the artist has depicted Genji in lavish interior spaces with a selection of 12 of his lovers. Produced in the mid 19th century, this work features the instantly recognizable style of the Utagawa School.

Condition - With excellent color and detail. A vertical crease at center. Some minor wrinkling or creasing near edges. Some spotting and offsetting in subject as shown. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
