That Romantic Figure in the Licensed Quarter at Dawn, 1863

Comments - Wonderful triptych showing Prince Genji leaving a geisha house in the Yoshiwara district. He smiles down at a young girl as he pulls on his coat, one hand resting on the top of his waiting palanquin. She tugs on his robe with both hands as she looks up at him, the courtesan standing behind her giggling into her kimono sleeve as she watches. Buildings stretch into the distance at right, with pedestrians strolling along and two puppies playing in the street at lower right. A terrific design with attractive color and detail, including embossing in the white kimono trim, along with soft shading in the night sky.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28 3/4"

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three panels, not attached at the seams and backed with thin paper. A few hole and losses repaired with backing. Lightly toned with some fading along edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
